Invitation to the webinar “Repurposing a former construction and furniture joinery in Melk”

In cooperation with the Umweltbundesamt, the results of the project seminar will be presented by the students. The focus is on the revitalization of an old carpentry site in the center of Melk.

The 13th webinar will be organized by students from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Research, who have been working on the revitalization and reuse of former industrial sites as part of a project seminar.

In 2009, the Fürst joinery relocated its production site, leaving behind a commercial area of around 4,500 m² in the center of Melk, which is now used for various purposes. In the long term, the site is to be developed into an urban location for residential, commercial and leisure use.

The students from the University of Vienna researched the topics of identity-forming places, tourism, inclusive participation and (cooperative) neighborhood development. They not only considered the location of the joinery, but also the social needs and economic situation of the city and looked at both historical and possible future developments.

Students bring diverse perspectives and methods to their case study and invite collaborative reflection on their findings. Students include:

Felix Dalik, Hanna Eckel, Steve Ehrenberger, Sophie Gnadenberger, Thomas Harbich, Henry Heller, Tabea Ikas, Piotr Jantos, Clemens Jellmair, Jakob Kühnberger, Alexios Partoglou, Geronimo Schindhelm, Eamon Schneider, Benno Urschler, Katharina Wachabauer and Clara Winkler.
