Obituary for Benjamin Davy

(1956 – January 24, 2025)

It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Professor Dr. Benjamin Davy, an outstanding scientist, sharp thinker and charismatic person who has left us far too soon.

Benjamin Davy was born in Vienna in 1956 and, as a legal scholar and spatial planner, left his mark on the fields of environmental law, land law and spatial planning for decades. As a university professor for land policy, land management and municipal surveying at the Faculty of Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University, he tirelessly promoted international exchange and the further development of his specialist field.

Together with Franziska Sielker and Meike Levin-Keitel, Benjamin initiated the founding of the AESOP Thematic Group Planning Theories. Many interesting discussions and events have arisen in this joint group leadership, which have once again taken a very fundamental look at planning theory issues. In addition, Benjamin Davy always took the time to visit us during his regular visits to Vienna and also sought dialogue with our junior researchers.

We bid farewell to Benjamin Davy with gratitude and appreciation. Although he leaves a gap behind that cannot be filled, his legacy will remain forever.
