Double Ring Infiltrometer

The infiltration test using a double ring infiltrometer is used to observe the infiltration behavior and to determine the hydraulic conductivity.

It consists of two steel rings of different diameters that are driven approx. 10cm deep into the ground and filled with water. The infiltration rate can be determined from the water level in the inner ring, which changes over time.

The test is carried out until a constant final infiltration rate is established, which corresponds to the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil. The water seeping into the outer ring serves as a buffer zone.
