Short description: Little is known about the hydrological significance of permafrost bodies in alpine landscapes, let alone their effect on geomorphic processes. Our project aims to disentangle the contribution of active and passive layer melting processes to annual runoff by combining geophysical, geochemical and hydrological methods. In a first phase, we focus on the Kaiserberg catchment in the Kaunertal valley, Austria, that has been the subject of previous studies addressing different aspects of permafrost hydrology. GeoHype is a joint project togther with the University of Bonn.
