News from field work

For the implementation of undisturbed carbon dioxide and methane measurements in the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl, the construction of a wooden board walk was necessary.

Over a period of 2 years, the PhD student Pamela Baur will conduct four 24-hour measurement campaigns per year there.

The aim of the measurement campaigns is to quantify and qualify the different transport pathways (plant-mediated, diffusion, ebullition) of carbon fluxes in the reed belt.

The board walk construction took place in sunny, windy and cold conditions in December 2020 and February 2021. Diligent sawing, drilling, hammering and tinkering took place.

The work was carried out by the great team of geoecology including master students and with the support of the Biological Station Neusiedlersee in Illmitz.

The photos also show that field work is fun ;)

Many thanks to all helpers!
