The Geoecology Group at the University of Vienna wants to celebrate the Wetlands Day with you!
We are showing our research in wetland ecosystems and how important that is for wetland restoration!
We have a Core Facility of Long Term Wetland Ecosystem Research (LTWER) devoted to examining the ecosystem functioning of wetlands with a focus on carbon and water cycling in reed belt of Lake Neusiedl and the Alpine ombrotrophic bog Pürgschachen Moor: https://wetlands.univie.ac.at/
Here are our main wetland study sites:
- Reed belt of Lake Neusiedl near Illmitz in Austria
- Puergschachen bog in Styria in Austria
- Pichlmaier bog in Styria in Austria
Our research projects in wetlands are:
- PRINCESS (Peatland Rewetting In Nitrogen-Contaminated Environments)
- ReVersal (Restoring peatlands of the nemoral zone under conditions of varying water supply)
- Conservation and Restoration of Peatland Biodiversity in Austria
- Dissertation projects in the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl and Puergschachen bog
- PeatGOV-Austria (Tracking down Austria's peat)
